Cyclone Yasi

Cyclone Yasi has passed. We are safe in Cairns Northern Beaches  and relatively unscathed. Buildings around us are intact and vegetation is piled on kerbsides – a very different picture from Mission Beach, Cardwell and Tully. We have tried to put ourselves in their shoes… our thoughts are with them. It is hard to come back to the everyday – but maybe that’s what we need to get going again.

School resumes tomorrow and the children in my class will be talking, drawing, creating and writing as they want about the last five days.

Hi Carol, My name is Bernadette Lawson and I am compiling a book called “The True Spirit of Cyclone Yasi.” I am looking for personal stories, letters, journal entries, poems, quotes, photos, and drawings from contributors of all ages and from all perspectives of the cyclone. I am searching for the child’s perspective and was wondering if you could help. I can be contacted…
